I spend a lot of time with LTD filling the odd spaces between picking The Mommy up from her carpool and going home. On one such occasion, LTD’s Nana was visiting and she accompanied us on the carpool pick up. We went to CVS to pick up something during the wait. The little guy demanded we go to the new CVS which is a little out of the way, but has a car cart. Since we had time on our hands I said, no problem. The three of us were near the back of the store when we came upon the blood pressure monitor station. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to strap myself in and check my pressure. I thought LTD would enjoy watching the test. What I failed to take into account is that he would want to press the buttons and do the test himself. Here is what happened.
The cuff automatically starts to tighten around my arm. LTD immediately starts screaming that he wants to press the buttons. However, he is strapped in with the seat buckle and only struggles in vain. I am trapped in the machine and telling him to stop. A minute later he has managed to get most of his body out of the cart but the buckle is still in effect. Oh, where was Nana during all this, you ask? She was observing silently as if the whole thing was a skit we were performing. The machine finally frees me and I take LTD out of the store both of us exhausted. What is the point of all this? The point is that when all was said and done the blood pressure machine told me I had stage four hypertension and needed to go to the emergency room immediately.
