I’m not going to lie and say that when I found out that The (Soon to Be) Mommy was pregnant I didn’t go a little nuts at Target. No kid of mine was going to have lame toys, so I began to slowly build a toy chest that would be the envy of all. Of course, I hit a snag early on after realizing that all the awesome toys had a minimum age of 3 to 4 years. However, I pushed past that problem with a superhero-like logic that decided that these toys would still be awesome in 3 years and they may not still make them, so really I was being wicked smart. The second snag I encountered was the realization that I could be having a girl. Again, logic took over and I figure out it would probably be okay with only two possible outcomes. One, she would hate them I would be forced to keep and play with them or two, she would become a pretty big nerd and not date much, which would prevent a different set of headaches later.
After LTD was born and we found out that he was in fact a boy; my acquisitions now truly seemed like a good idea. As for my purchasing habits, I have had to scale them back a bit with the understanding that I really can’t keep stuff hidden away for 3 years and there were a lot of other things that the money would be better spent on. So now something has to be really, really bad-ass for me to buy it early or really, really on sale. However, I will confess that I still buy him Matchbox cars, because they are cheap and cool. LTD doesn’t know it yet but his garage is well stocked with Ferraris and Lamborghini’s. They sit proudly, still in the package, waiting for the year 2012.
